An Appreciative Girl Scout
Girl Scout Gold Award

Dear Mr. Olah:I would like to thank you and the Verizon Foundation so much for the very generous donations to my Girl Scout Gold Project. It was a tremendous cost saving for me when I did not have to purchase a stencil of the United States or playground paint and painting supplies. It was also very kind of you to donate your time when it came time to paint the playground maps at Pine Tree School in Monroe, NY. I know that the project turned out as well as it did because of all your insight and coaching.                             Sincerely,                             Kendra Doering

(Mr. Gabe Olah is the Chapter President)

Countless Hours of Dedication
Nancy Barnes and Eileen Abrams

Nancy Barnes and Eileen Abrams of the Troy Life Member Club have knitted lap robes, mittens and hats sets and booties for the needy for over 20 years. There is no official count, but we estimate that together they have knitted more than 1,000 lap robes, 100 pairs of booties, 3,000 sets of hats and mitten sets, and scarves. When they ran out of yarn purchased by the chapter or clubs, they purchased yarn with their own money. As he presented a service award to them on Nov. 17, 2010, Mountain Valley Empire Chapter President Gabe Olah said, “When you have a luncheon or a Pioneer function you know who your leaders are. But within the clubs and councils, there are volunteers that are in the background. These volunteers give of themselves so that others may be comfortable.” The plaques read, ” In appreciation for the countless hours spent knitting lap robes, hats, and mittens for those in need. Your selfless acts of kindness have touched the lives of many.”
